Name: Paul Rand Birth: August 15, 1914 Death; November 26, 1996
Paul was born in Brooklyn, New York where he decided he loved art. For schooling, he attended Pratt Institute, Parsons and Art Students League. During his early career, he was in charge of the page setting for Apparel Arts, now GQ.
Rand's art is very simplistic and is influenced by Modernism. He was inspired by many artists who took everyday objects and turned them into beautiful art. He also practiced the Swiss style of art and design.
Rand's motives for creating art were very personal. He loved art since the time he was a little kid. I think another reason for his artwork was to prove a point to his father that he could turn art into a career which his father said was impossible.
This designer has influenced me to make my work simple and to make it get a message across simply. My work need to have a clear purpose with a defined client, because Rand always had a client in mind. He has influenced my work by trying to make it look as neat as possible.
My final image is similar to my Rand's however there are some distinct differences. His uses a different font and blends the letters horizontally, while mine blends them vertically. His logo is also in an orange color while mine is in black and white in an effort to be simple and clean and elegant.
My design uses line and shapes to create a logo for my favorite class, DTEP. This logo is very different from the one we use now, and it very balance all in the middle as it goes down. There is emphasis and movement on the name and down the word in a natural way.
